PENN – International Series

Penn makes a wide range of large levelwind reels for all big game fish species. Here in the Fraser Valley you will see larger Penn Reels being used for Sturgeon and bar fishing for Chinook salmon. We have fished with the Penn 320 for both Sturgeon and bar fishing for Chinook on the Fraser & the Penn 330 for Sturgeon.

This was our first season using the Penn International Series for Sturgeon fishing on the Fraser. As mentioned above we have used Penn products in the past so it wasn’t a totally new experience.

The big difference between Penn International and Penn 320 / 330 series is the drag system. The International series is a Lever Drag System where the Penn 320 / 330 series is a multi-disc star drag system. Both drag systems are adequate for big game but the lever drag system is much smoother and consistant.

The Penn International is made from machined gold anodized aluminum with a forged aluminum spool. Stainless steel ball bearing and a steel reel stand make this reel pretty much indestructible. The Penn International is not for every angler. This reel runs in the highend category of fishing reels around the $600 to $700 price range.
