Korker Konvertible - Wading Boots
Recenty I had the pleasure of trying out of the latest wading boot out on the market. The Korker Kovertible wading boot is a wading boot that allows you to exchange the sole with a variety of tread options. Korkers have 6 replacement soles to choose from, the standard in fishing
Felt Soles, Studded Felt for those rivers like the Thompson, Rubber Lug Trail
Soles, Studded Rubber Soles, AquaStealth® Soles and a None Slip Boat
Sole.
There are two models to choose from, the rugged " Outfitter Boot" suitable for guides and those who need a little extra support and the " Wetlands Boot" which is a bit lighter and more affordable for the average weekend angler. Each boot comes with two soles when purchased, The Felt Sole and Rubber Lug Trail Sole. You can purchase additional soles for both models, price ranges from $19.95 to $29.95.
At first I was a bit concerned with the low cut ankle of the Outfitter. Many of the rivers we fish have large round stones and boulders so I am used to buying high support wading boots like Hodgeman, Orvis and Simms. After the first 30 minutes of wading the Pitt River ( it's the worst on your ankles for wading) I knew you had a great boot. Even with the low cut ankle, I felt more support than any other boot I have ever worn. I tried the Felt Studded Sole for the first time, wow what a difference from just using felted boots. The traction is 10 fold compared to just using felt. Even on large rocks, the spiked soles just grab. I have not slipped once since I started using them.
The Fraser Valley area requires versatility and flexibility in order to be a full time year round guide outfitter or even just a avid angler . We fish many rivers with many methods. We walk and wade some of the roughest shorelines, raft remote rivers and run Jet boats on the larger river like the Fraser and Harrison. Having the ability to switch our soles from studded felts to felt or non marking soles when we use our Jet boats is a concept that I never really thought of. The studded soles have made my job safer yet I don't need a second boot when I run my boat or raft.
I will continue to put the Korker boot to the test. Once we get into our prime season June-Nov, it will really put the boot to the test as we fish 7 days a week for 4 1/2 months. If the boot stays together during our rugged season, it will provide the average angler with years of comfort and safety on the water.
