Weekly update
The Fraser has risen substantially this past week, lots of debris in the water with some larger logs. Keep an eye out when your anchored or running up river especially if you're running a prop boat. Hopefully this is the start of spring freshet as we do have quite a bit of snow in the local mountains. The sooner it melts, the sooner we can start our salmon season.
Oh and just for your information, the local natives were netting this past weekend and it's looks to me like the early Chinook run isn't so bad after all. Every net I watched being pulled had at least 2 or 3 Chinook salmon. I am looking forward to seeing the reported numbers.
Fraser Valley Report
Sturgeon
Sturgeon fishing has continued to improve over the past week with good numbers of fish between 3 to 5 feet and a few more fish in the 6 to 7 foot range. Our largest fish this week was just over 7 ft caught by Jack Whitmarsh of Calgary who fished 3 days with his brother Lyle and friends. They managed to land close to 100 sturgeon in 3 days of fishing on the Fraser.

There are some bigger fish starting to move into the river as we tagged into a monster yesterday, after a long tiring 2 hour battle we were so close to landing this fish but sometimes the fish gods have a different plan. Unfortunately this big fish will only be a story about the one that got away. We estimate this fish between 10 to 12 feet.

If you're looking to get out onto the water over the next month, sturgeon fishing is one fishery you should give a try. We are starting to fill up for dates for September, October and November so if you are planning on fishing with us during peak season, book soon to not be disappointed.
Vedder River Steelhead
Steelhead fishing is now over for the year guys but if your wanting to try your luck at fly fishing the Vedder River below the Vedder Crossing is still open to steelhead fishing on the fly. If water conditions remain good there is a good number of fish holding in the lower river and canal area. Best to swing large spey flies or egg suck'n leeches, rabbit leeches or large attractor fly's. Nymping with strike indicator & single egg patterns also work well.
Trout fishing in the Valley
The Upper Pitt River sea-run Bull Trout fishery is almost hear. End of May through the month of June is best. Book now as we limit the number of anglers per day on this river. Last year our biggest trout was 12 lbs but we did manage quite a few fish between 8 to 10 and lots of 4 to 6 lb trout. Our best day was 40 fish on the fly so don't miss out on this world class fishery. Check out these fish from last year.

Vancouver Saltwater Report
The local saltwater fishing has been quite good over the last two weeks. Good numbers of fish in the 10-16 pound range have been taken from Vancouver Harbour, the QA marker, and the south side of Bowen Island. We have been hooking 3-7 chinook/king salmon per charter over the last couple weeks. The fish have been higher in the water column now that the water has become more murky. Anchovies, coyote spoons, and white and green coloured hootchies have all been working. We have been getting fish between 50-130 feet on the downriggers. Crabbing has been really good in the harbour and traps are dropped on all trips till late June.

BOOK NOW FOR JUNE 2008
45 minutes from Vancouver is one of British Columbia's best-kept secrets. The Upper Pitt River is located at the north end of Pitt Lake, North America's only freshwater tidal lake. Each spring the Upper Pitt River receives thousands of Sea-run Bull trout heading back to their home waters in Garibaldi Park to spawn. Each high tide brings a fresh run of fish into the lower reaches of the Upper Pitt River. We begin targeting this bright chrome fish in mid May with fantastic fishing opportunities through June until mid to late July. Some of the best fishing occurs between May 21 to Jun 31. These fish reach as much as 14 lbs with an average size of 4 to 8 lbs. incredible action on the fly and light spinning tackle. We are now booking for our May - June 2008 Sea-run Bull Trout Fishery. This trip is limited to 2 boats per day so book now for best dates.
