Sheltered by coves, inlets and bays, Dundas Islands kelp beds have become legendary for producing some of the worlds best saltwater fly fishing for silver salmon( Coho). Dundas Island lies between the waters of Dixon Entrance and Chatham Sound, breathtaking views of Alaska and abundant wildlife is overwhelming.

Fishing - Traditionally the water off Dundas Island were exclusively for commercial ships taking millions and millions of salmon each year. As the commercial fleets dwindled, sport fishing has become legendary. This area is known for spectacular fishing for King Salmon ( Chinook) to 50 lbs, Silver Salmon ( Coho) to 20 lbs, Halibut Chickens 15-25 lbs. Other species of bottom fish can be targeted like lingcod, red snapper, crab, spawns and a variety of other rockfish. This area is now one of the most sought regions for saltwater fly fishing for salmon.
Angling Methods - Saltwater Fly fishing is becoming one of the most favored by experienced anglers from around the world. The thrill of casting into kelp beds, stripping fly's and watching "schools of 10 or more fish chase your fly to the boat, often you can watch the fly as it is inhaled with tail walking leaps and Arial displays to follow. These fish can also be taken on the DRY FLY for those wanting an extra challenge. Although this fishery is sought after by the experts, we offer daily instruction for any level. Vic Carrao of STS Guiding Service is scheduled for two trips and will offer daily fly fishing tutorials ranging from casting, angling techniques, fly tying and more.
Accommodations - Dundas Islands remote location limits the angling opportunities to very few, that's why we love it so much. There is only one floating lodge located at the north inlet offering fishing adventures. Our 72 ft floating lodge, the MV Ocean Star offers anglers the opportunity to see and experience the entire region. As fish move throughout the inlets and bays, so do we. Our ability to move with the fish is where you have the advantage. Moorage is in private secluded and protected inlets where fishing is just minutes away.
History - The MV Ocean Star built in1995 was an active commercial fishing vessel until 2001. In her early years, the ocean stars crew fished for Halibut in Alaska and British Columbia. Later, the Ocean Star was a purse-seiner, catching salmon and herring in those same waters. In 2001, the Ocean Star was restored to it's original condition, with restoration process involving replicating the boats sleeping quarters and galley back to when fisherman lived aboard. With many upgrades and modern technology the MV Ocean Star has been transformed into a Sport fishing machine capable of traveling anywhere on the rugged British Columbia Coast, fishing some of the most richest of waters.
